Ghanshyam L. Vaghjiani
Dr. Vaghjiani has over 3 decades of leadership and proven ability in R&D grant writing and program management in rocket technologies (In-Space Propulsion, Liquid Propellants Development, and Combustion Sciences) to support the warfighter. Dr. Vaghjiani studies and evaluates reaction pathways pertinent to the understanding of rocket propellants & explosives decomposition processes, and spacecraft-atmospheric interactions. Chemical reaction kinetics, hypergolic and laser-initiated ignition, heterogeneous combustion, rocket exhaust plume emissions, satellite glows, and space vehicle surface erosion are some of the phenomena currently being investigated. His group designs, operates, and maintains high-intensity lasers, vacuum apparatuses, high-pressure combustion & reaction chambers, spectrometers, and various laboratory digital electronic devices. He uses various DoE Synchrotron beam facilities to address numerous DoD capability gaps in rocket and explosives sciences. Experimental findings are rationalized using modern quantum chemical and molecular dynamics theories to construct reaction models, which enables one to understand the mechanisms and to extrapolate to the conditions of real-world behavior of explosives and rocket fuels.
